Lyla's Ear Tube Surgery

Lyla's Surgery

Lyla had her first surgery today and it was a huge success! She had to get ear tubes in both ears due to the fluid that has been in her ears for several months now. Luckily she has never had an ear infection but the fluid definitley needed to get drained. We drove to DuPont Children's Hospital in Delaware and we stayed at the "Coutyard Marriot". We left Long Island at 9:30am on Wednesday and got to Delaware at around 12:45pm.  It took us approx. a little over 3 hrs. which was great! The girls were AWESOME in the car. Lyla had her Pre-Op surgical appt. at 2:30pm. So we checked into the Marriot and hung out/unpacked and then went to her appt. at Dupont. The nurses were TERRIFIC! Dr. Schmidt (Lyla's ENT) was also GREAT! Everyone answered all our questions and put us at ease right away. When we left her Pre-Op appt. we went out to eat. We stopped at the Macaroni Grill and had dinner. Then we went back to the hotel and we took the girls in the pool. Emma loved the pool because it was indoors and she also enjoyed the hot tub! Then we gave baths and put our beauties to bed. Both girls were in bed by 7pm and Eddie and I stayed up watching movies on the IPad (with headphones). We didn't want to wake the kids! We got up at 5:45am because we needed to report to the hospital at 6:30 am. Lyla was the first surgery. When Eddie and I woke up our girls were still sleeping so we got ready and then woke them up. They both slept all night (they both sleep all night at home but there is always that chance since they are in a strange place that they might wake up). Lyla couldn't eat ANYTHING when she woke up and I thought she might get fussy but this girl was an ANGEL! She didn't cry or fuss once! Eddie, Emma and me were right by her side the whole time and when they put her on the stretcher she looked so adorable! She looked so peaceful and calm and then the three of us waited in the waiting area. We walked in and Eddie got coffee and then Dr. Schmidt came out. It was literally 10 minutes. We went back to see her and she woke up. She looked very tired but still NO crying or fussing. I couldn't believe it! I gave her some water and a few minutes later I was able to give her some formula. She was so relaxed and EVERYTHING went great! They discharged her with some drops to prevent infection and we went back to the hotel to eat some breakfast. Finally we packed up and headed home. Of course we stopped to get snacks and daddy never disappoints. He stopped at Dunkin Donuts and we snacked on Munchkins and Donuts...Yummy, Yummy! Here are some pics from our trip!

  6. So glad to hear that Lyla's surgery went well! Isn't it amazing how quickly it's over? DuPont is a wonderful place and it's great to know our kiddos are in such capable hands! I have to say, Lyla with the munchkin might be my new favorite picture! Adorable! I think I have to let Liam try his first munchkin now!

  7. You are going to be so happy you had this done now. I feel like Preston started to suffer at Lyla's age with ear infections and it was tragic. He didn't get tubes until almost two. It was unbearable. He lived on antibiotics and was delayed with speech because of it. Of course now he has caught up and then some and never shuts up! Lol. The new pics are just adorable. Your girls are just gorgeous and so is momma! I'd love to have a phone date soon.
